My prediction:
- Some people who love the book will love the movie
- Some who hate the book will love the movie
- Some who love the book will hate the movie
- Some who only liked the book will love the movie
- Some who loved the book will only like the movie
- Some will be indifferent to both
- And some will decorate their bedroom with JJ Feild/Ricky Whittle/Bret McKenzie/James Callis posters
I fall in category 1, and I hope most people will! But there's really no way to ever guess how anyone will respond. I can tell you that the crowd reaction to the Sundance screenings was marvelous. Laughter was constant. There were visible meltings at romantic moments and audible "ahh"s too. It's not exactly like the book. I think it helps to prepare yourself for that. Jane's story is a little different, some of the characters aren't quite the same, some scenes don't make it from book to movie but most of your favorites do. Women reported to me that they left the movie feeling swoony and happy. Men (and women too) reported to me that they couldn't remember the last time they'd laughed out loud so much. What will you think? You'll have a chance to find out this summer! As more info on the movie's release emerge, you can be sure I'll post them here.
Jerusha Hess said, "We wanted to make a movie for all you Jane Austen fans, and we wanted to make a movie for all you who think Jane Austen fans are funny."

I may or may not already fall into category 7. In my defense, have you SEEN JJ Feild in Northanger Abbey? That smirk gets me every time.

I just posted on the last entry how much I love this movie. I thought the book was so much fun and perfect for a movie, so I'm glad that everyone involved in making the movie thought so, too. I'm just sorry that it didn't win any awards at the festival. You were robbed!!! (Okay, I probably really shouldn't say that because this was the only movie I saw at the festival.)

I am so excited for this movie to come out in theaters! So excited! I will probably fall into category one as well.

Whatever anyone's reaction is, I just think it is plain awesome that you can now add "movie script" (or whatever it is called in fancy film-lingo) to your resume. Congratulations on your movie!

From what I have heard from fans of the book who got to see it at Sundance I am fairly certain I will fall into category number 1 and might tip toe around number 7, you know just to say hi.

I usually fall into catagory 3 or 5 when it comes to movies based on books I love, but I feel that if the author likes how the movie was done then I should be happier with it too. I can't wait until it comes to public theaters!

I will probably be in category 1. I have been a fan of JJ Feild ever since I saw him in Northanger Abbey. I can't wait until this is released.

J.J. Feild insures that I will love this move. Northanger Abbey sold me already.

Ah! So excited. By the way, my sister-in-law and brother went to the Sundance screening of Austenland (which I was so jealous of), and considering they're not Austen lovers (to say the least), I didn't think I'd get a positive reaction from them. But they both really enjoyed it! My brother even announced to the whole family that he liked it when asked, and I'm pretty sure he was toning it down. So you need to add a #8 - those who haven't read the book yet will love the movie.:) I'm so excited to see it!

I fall into category 1: Love and Love.
My husband, I think, is a 4: Like and Love. He enjoyed the novel, but not beyond liking it. But as we walked out of the theater at the end of the movie, he said, "I LOVED it!"
Then he gushed about it all the way home.
He tells his friends to take their wives to see it when it comes out this summer.
Austenland is a winner.

I agree with all of the JJ Feild fans. His smirk in Nothanger Abbey sold me a long time ago. I am pretty sure I am a number 1 and 7. I am so excited I can't wait!

I'm so happy to get to see this movie and I'm planning on thoroughly loving it!

My sentiments are also described by statement #1!
I liked that the movie had some new twists (I was so shocked my Keri Russell's, ahem, musical talents, it completely cracked me up). The characters were familiar, but so many new details made the film fresh for someone who's already read the book. It was a great balance.
P.S. Love that quote by Jerusha! I'm an Austenite, yet I poke fun at Austenites. :)

I'm so excited for this and totally ready for a belly-laughing Jane Austen movie. Because, honestly, there's just not enough of those in the world. :-)

I honestly can't wait to see it. I'm hoping it'll come to Phoenix before too long. You're a master writer and I can't wait to see how your book translated into film. If you love it, I'm sure I'll love it too. :) I have a feeling I'll definitely be in the 1st category. Congrats!

My daughter and I will be patiacrpiting together. It starts at 8 am for me. We've both pulled out a stack of books to choose from in the morning, and I'm trying to clear out Google Reader a bit before the posts start coming in. This is my first read-a-thon and I can't wait! Good luck and have fun!--Anna

Thanks, DC.However, it is worth noting this is not an ofciaifl UAH page (that's run by John Christy). This page is under the control of Roy Spencer.I didn't know this! Very interesting info. However, one could question the timing of the change, since the problem was known for a long time before. That's exactly what I question, not that it's so important. The news that Spencer is behind most of it makes sense. I always thought he was the more pseudo-skeptic of the two. I actually don't have much of a problem with Christy.
