One more day on the character name auction.
If you're on Facebook, go "like" the Shannon Hale fan page (supported by Bloomsbury--no, I didn't make my own fan page, I swear). Bloomsbury will be giving away Midnight in Austenland ARCs shortly! And ongoing giveaways all year. Good stuff to come.
Speaking of giving away MIA ARCs, I got two more! One I'll give away on Twitter, and the other here. Add a comment on this post to enter, and I'll get a number from a random number generator to pick the winner. (and then I'll send you the one you won, Carly, I swear!) One comment per, I'll announce the winner Saturday. To give yourselves something to talk about, if you were publishing your first book (or if you already have, your next one) who would you dedicate it to?

Me? Is it me? Is it?
Posted by: Leah Clifford | November 02, 2011 at 02:51 PM
The person who read the book first, probably, or encouraged me the most while I was working on it.
Posted by: hwalk | November 02, 2011 at 02:52 PM
Aahhhh, let's see. My first book would be dedicated to my husband for putting up with me, and to my daughter too, for the same reason (though she won't have known any better). My mom would feel bad if I left her out so I'd better include her too -but especially since she's the one who instilled the love of books and fiction in me since day one.

the link for the ARC give a way takes me to e-bay
Posted by: Sue | November 02, 2011 at 02:53 PM
Am I random enough this time?
Posted by: Alden | November 02, 2011 at 02:53 PM
If I got a book published, I would dedicate it to my sister for being there and listening to me rant about it all the time.
Posted by: Victoria C. | November 02, 2011 at 02:53 PM
Oh me, please, please, please! I am so beyond excited for this book!
Posted by: Stacey (AKA Aubrey) | November 02, 2011 at 02:53 PM
I would love to get your book. Thank you for having a contest not on Facebook. I almost got a Facebook account just so I could enter. Almost.
I dedicated my first short story to my husband and the same will be WHEN (positive thinking) I publish my first novel because if it ever does get published it will be because of him.
Posted by: Emily | November 02, 2011 at 02:54 PM
I'd dedicate it to Shannon Hale for inspiring me by sending me an ARC for MIA. :) Too much? Ok, I'd dedicate it to my husband.
Posted by: Annie | November 02, 2011 at 02:54 PM
Although I will probably never publish a book, my first would be dedicated to my parents or my husband. They are all super supportive.
Posted by: Tommie @ Ilene Books | November 02, 2011 at 02:54 PM
If I ever finish my book and get it published I will dedicate it to my husband because he's my own personal cheerleader. =) Cheesy but true.
Posted by: Kathryn @ Clean Teen Fiction | November 02, 2011 at 02:54 PM
I'd dedicate my book to my father. He's always said that I have a writer inside me and I like to think he's right.
Posted by: Jordan Finch | November 02, 2011 at 02:55 PM
Oooh, don't mind if I do. Can't wait to read it. You rock, Shannon!
Posted by: Ariell Larson | November 02, 2011 at 02:55 PM
Ooh Midnight in Austenland...
Posted by: VeeWeasley | November 02, 2011 at 02:55 PM
Guess I should mention my Twitter name is Aubrey@MPB, and I would dedicate my first book to my father who passed away 2 years ago from cancer.
Posted by: Stacey (AKA Aubrey) | November 02, 2011 at 02:56 PM
I think I'd dedicate it to the awesome writers/people who inspired me. And to those two people who keep me going.
Posted by: Lucia | November 02, 2011 at 02:56 PM
Ooh, I'd love an ARC! That would be so neat.
Posted by: Frogster | November 02, 2011 at 02:56 PM
I'd dedicate my book to my kids!!!
Posted by: Lauren | November 02, 2011 at 02:57 PM
My friend Katie from 7th grade and all of my other many ginea pigs who must have liked something in my characters or story to read an awkward teenager's fantasies!
Posted by: Ashley | November 02, 2011 at 02:57 PM
I'd dedicate a book to my Mom who would read while feeding me my bottle. (We have pictures and she did it with all my younger siblings)
Posted by: Cathy Lane | November 02, 2011 at 02:58 PM
I'd dedicate It to Shannon Hale for inspiring me to write in the first place
Posted by: Sierra | November 02, 2011 at 03:00 PM
hmm...my first book. I would probably dedicate it to my siblings :)
Posted by: Katie | November 02, 2011 at 03:00 PM
Yay!
(And hey, are you gonna do an Austenland screening @ the district or somewhere when it comes out? that could be fun! just tell us what time and i'm sure people would show up - i would!)
Posted by: kirsten | November 02, 2011 at 03:01 PM
To my third grade teacher. Who told me I should be a writer.
Posted by: Jer | November 02, 2011 at 03:04 PM
I would love an ARC! If (and hopefully when) my novel gets published, I would dedicate it to my first creative writing professor. I took the class as a requirement for a different major and realized that I wanted to be a writer more than anything else.
Posted by: Kay Brown | November 02, 2011 at 03:05 PM
Probably my husband since he has been encouraging me to write forever. And probably a quick shout out to my cat, Princess Buttercup, for sitting on my lap and keeping me company while I read and write.
Posted by: Sara C. | November 02, 2011 at 03:06 PM
I always dedicate my books to immediate family members -- basically in turn although the daughters don't always see it that way.
Posted by: Gail | November 02, 2011 at 03:06 PM
Can't wait to read it!
Posted by: Debbie | November 02, 2011 at 03:07 PM
I would dedicate my book to my mother.
Posted by: Stephanie | November 02, 2011 at 03:08 PM
Ah! I want this sooo bad! If I were to get a book published I would probably dedicate it to my parents and husband...they are the best.
Posted by: Julie S | November 02, 2011 at 03:09 PM
I would dedicate it to you. Just kidding. I'm thinking it would dedicate it to my husband, who supports every crazy idea I have!
Posted by: Janeil Jones | November 02, 2011 at 03:09 PM
Hmm. Maybe that English teacher in high school who told me to never attempt creative writing again. Ha ha! No, seriously, my husband, absolutely.
Posted by: Laura Lyle | November 02, 2011 at 03:09 PM
Oooh! ARC!
I would probably dedicate the book the my best friend, who supports me no matter what crazy idea I have. She'd probably be the one one who'd have to deal with me the most during the process, so she would deserve it!
Posted by: Merritt | November 02, 2011 at 03:10 PM
I would dedicate my book to my sister, my mom, my dad, my brothers, and my small group of friends. They are the ones who encourage me to be great, and I love that about them. I couldn't ask for anyone better than they are. They truely deserve to have a book dedicated to them!!!
Posted by: Katie | November 02, 2011 at 03:10 PM
I would love a copy of the book. You are one of my favorite authors.
Posted by: Tori Bradford | November 02, 2011 at 03:11 PM
I would probably dedicate it to my family. Or my friend Stephanie who lit the fire years ago. Or my favorite author (read: you).
Posted by: Janelle | November 02, 2011 at 03:12 PM
If I ever finally publish a book I'll dedicate it to my hubby and my writing buddies.
Posted by: jenelcc | November 02, 2011 at 03:12 PM
I would dedicate it to my sister Hannah and my cousin Samatha because they make me laugh and for all the awesome "sleep" overs.
Posted by: Emily | November 02, 2011 at 03:12 PM
I would dedicate it to my hubby, of course. But my SECOND would be dedicated to Mom-writers who prove you can do it! Just not if you're me.
Posted by: Meg | November 02, 2011 at 03:13 PM
I would dedicate it to my English teacher from 7th grade. I hated writing but she was convinced I would be a writer one day, regardless. I told myself if I ever really did write something, I had no choice but to dedicate it to her :)
Posted by: Elise | November 02, 2011 at 03:13 PM
I would dedicate a book to my family, who would be the best support while doing something so big.
Posted by: Lalani | November 02, 2011 at 03:13 PM
I'd dedicate my first book to my husband for most consistently putting up with the crazy, and to my brother Joel for being my creative director, basically. He's the one I bounce ideas off to see if they're good, and he's the one who's filled many a plot hole in my day.
Posted by: Laurie | November 02, 2011 at 03:13 PM
I would dedicate it to my family. I have amazing parents that let me cut school to go to Shannon Hale book signings and a sister who tolerated my frequent raiding of her bookshelf!
Posted by: Calliope1of9 | November 02, 2011 at 03:13 PM
My son. For growing up just enough to finally get some writing done! ;)
Posted by: tawnya | November 02, 2011 at 03:14 PM
I'd dedicate it to my sister in law, the beautiful young woman who introduced me to most of the wonderful books I love. She introduced me to Meghan Whalen Turner, Jeanne Du'Prau, and the most excellent Utaharian writer...
Shannon Hale!
Posted by: Ingrid | November 02, 2011 at 03:18 PM
I don't know who I'd dedicate a book of mine to, so instead I will tell you that my favorite dedication in your books is the one in Forest Born. It makes smile just to think about it.
Posted by: Melanie | November 02, 2011 at 03:18 PM
To my little brother, for harassing me while I write so I don't take myself too seriously.
Posted by: Samantha Chaffin | November 02, 2011 at 03:19 PM
I would probably be totally random and dedicate it to a famous person with no connection to the book like Carey Elwes or Betsy Drake.
Posted by: Morgan | November 02, 2011 at 03:20 PM
I unofficially dedicated (as it is unpublished) my first book to my best friend, who helped me with editing and put up with my crazy writer tendencies, and my grandma, who provided inspiration for the story and who passed away shortly before I finished it.
Posted by: Kalli | November 02, 2011 at 03:22 PM
If I wrote a book I would dedicate it to my mom for reading to me so much that she had all the Dr. Seuss books memorized.
