I just peeked at Libba Bray's blog and saw a video link she posted that is so fabulous and is giving me wonderful flashbacks to our tour together. If you have 5 minutes to waste...and especially if you are a child of the 80s...it's worth checking out. (rated PG) Hysterical. I love you, Libba Bray! With a passionate love that will only end in ruin. And perhaps brownies.
To answer a couple of questions from the last blog post: This Saturday at the King's English (or really, at any book signing), will I sign books that people bring in?
The answer, for me, is always yes. I will sign any books you bring. But if you bring books from home to a signing at a book store, it's good manners to buy at least one book from the store. They're hosting the event, putting money into it, and their only take from it is book sales. It doesn't have to be one of my books, but I do ask that if you bring outside books, you support the book store by making a purchase. No one's going to check up on you, but I highly encourage it. Books don't have a high profit margin. A book store has to sell a lot of books to stay in business, and we NEED them to stay in business.
Another question: does this event have a theme? YES! Aprons and pies. You heard right. Wear an apron in solidarity to housewives everywhere and come eat pie. I'll give a book to the awesome person who dons the most fabulous apron. The King's English in Salt Lake City, Utah, 5 pm on June 13.
And now for news that's so exciting to me but probably won't really matter to anyone else (except my mom...hi Mom!)...the actor and the housewife is an Indie Next Pick for July! Indie Bound (formerly BookSense) is basically the United Federation of Independent Booksellers in the US (and Canada? I'm not sure about that...) Each month the booksellers select stand out titles to recommend to customers. This is a huge hug for the book and I'm so thrilled.

I wish I lived in Utah! TAATHW sounds great!I'm ordering it.
Thanks for the post, Shannon!

I am coming! And extremely excited, to say the least. (now leaving the computer to think of crazy insane apron ideas.)
Posted by: Allison | June 08, 2009 at 06:08 PM
Now I'm going to wear an apron and eat a pie (hopefully not a whole one) for when I read the book just so I can pretend like I am at the release party. I can't wait to read it! :D

Congrats for being Indie Bound pick for July! I can't wait to read it. It looks like a lot of fun.

Couldn't stop laughing at the video. The most common phrase that comes to mind when I think of the 80's is, "What were we thinking??!!"

I can't wait until Saturday! I am buying a copy of The Actor and the Housewife from The King's English today! Love that store, I could spend hours there!
The theme is great, it is going to be fun!
Happy Release Day today!

That video is hysterical. :D
The Actor and the Housewife is out today!!!! Too bad it's kind of a stretch to make it to the release party. But I will have my own little party right here. *dances off to order book*
I'm positive it will be amazing. :)

Will you be having any tour in the Los Angeles area? I would love to meet you and tell you how much I love Austenland! I look forward to reading The Actor and the Housewife!

I'm working on making it to the release party! I'm planning on it. It's going to be a busy day.
I'll probably wear an apron, but I imagine after a while, I'll wish I didn't, but it'll be too late! Guys in aprons aren't that cool :)

Be sure to plan some book signings for next summer because my friend and I want to raise up enough money to go to Utah and meet you! We are total fans of all your books. Be sure to tell us if you're coming to Houston, Texas any time soon.

I LOVE themed parties. Okay I just love to party. See you on Saturday!
Your book signing is during the Kings English's Semi Annual sale. Which means every book is on sale! Could there be a better time to be at Kings English? I think not!

I have a totally awesome apron but it's also an inside joke aka only REALLY funny to some, just normal to others. Ha.
Thanks for the FAQ's I've had tons of friends asking if you'll be signing other books. I'll be sure to pass on the word. We love Kings English.

Cool! That's awesome that the name of the party/place/book signing is The Kings English! lol :O) Hey Shannon, do you have a Twitter? My name is a link to mine. :O)

Just finished A&H. Wow. My eyes are puffy from crying and I can't sleep (it's 2:45 am). What a wonderful story with such realistic and lovable characters. I feel as if Mike, Celeste, Becky, and Felix are my pals. Thank you for bringing this story to life; it's a gem. Hoping you make it to Los Angeles sometime soon. I'd love to shower you with praise in person and perhaps kiss your feet.

I wish I could come to your signings! I don' actually live anywhere near you, so I can't, but it's so wonderful of yuo to do them : ) And for the Indie boook thing - That's wonderful, it's fantastic! I hardly know anything about it, but you are delighted, so I am ecstatic for you! : )
And I have been a little out of it today, so I'm sorry for any spelling/grammatical errors (It bothers me when I have them)
bye! : )

I just read The Actor and the Housewife, well I finished it last night in the wee hours...makes for a cranky & impatient mom the next, but totally worth it. I love the way you write. I laughed, I cried...I ran the emotional gammit (sp?). I just couldn't stop reading, I had to know what happens next-after like every chapter! Thank you. I look forward to many more of your books.

I'm a bookseller with Barnes & Noble, and it made me so happy, earlier this week, to see your book getting put up with the other new releases. Then I got my own copy today and I'm even more excited! Granted, I'm always excited about your books, and have been since a friend introduced me to them four years ago, but I especially have a feeling I'm going to devour this one. :)
Oh, and by the way, your author photo is absolutely stunning.

Pretty much I`m really ticked because I`m in Europe and I live in Salt Lake and I`ve been to King`s English and now I can`t get a book signed! I`m going to go cry in a corner now.

I thought you were going to be at the kings english on friday so I made a special trip from Riverside Ut to come and so you there with my sister. I feel really bad that I missed out on that oppertunity. I bought my sister and I each a copy of your new book and have been driving my husband nuts with all the laughing! I love it!

I got my copy from Amazon yesterday and I read it right away. I have to say that I was nervous about the book, because I rarely like LDS fiction. But, you pulled it off beautifully! The Mormon cliches were funny and not overdone, and I loved the banter between Felix and Becky. I absolutely loved Becky and Mike's relationship.
It's been so fun to see how you've grown as an author. I remember how smart and funny you seemed years ago at that educator's night, where you impressed me enough for me to buy Goose Girl. It's still my favorite! Look at how much you've accomplished since then! And while I'm gushing, let me thank you for your blog, it always makes my day. I wish I could be in Utah for all these fun events!

How funny! I just saw that video for the first time a couple of days ago. I woke up giggling over the "mullet with headlights" line this morning again.
And I went out and bought "The Actor and the Housewife" a few days ago and quickly devoured it. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, but I loved it. I'm so glad you chose to tell that story. It's one of my new favorites.
