Announcing the rapunzel's revenge book trailer contest! Make a book trailer for rapunzel's revenge, post it on you tube, send us the link, and join the contest. We'll run it for six months, vote at the end, and winners will receive a big o' bag o' book goodies beyond your wildest dreams. No rules. But keep in mind, it must be clean (comfortably viewable by the young and innocent), and shorter usually works better (10 seconds to 2 minutes). More details to follow, but to kick us off, check out the FANT-TAWESOMENESS of Marcus Aurelius's contribution.
Happy holidays, folks. Someone must have wished for a white Christmas in Utah, 'cause, boy howdy.

That video was awesome.

That. Was. Awesome. I sure wish I had that kind of creative genius.
My brother and sis-in-law gave me "Rapunzel's Revenge" for Christmas. I read it in an hour and loved every minute of it. I can't wait to read it again as soon as we finish dinner.

I suppose it would be helpful to read it first. I'll have to find out how to buy it and read it.

The contest sounds fun...which is good cause the freakin' snow is driving me stark raving.

yay! I have to say, I bought a copy of Rapunzel's Revenge as a Christmas present for my brother, but couldn't help reading it fanatically before wrapping it up.

Yeeee-haw!
That's awesome, Marcus. I love it!
I've got to go start working on my entry....

I've watched this a few times now--really fantastic! Your Rapunzel is hotter than mine! How is that possible?
Really great work, I'm impressed that it is genuine frame-based animation, and not Flash, that's a LOT of work. Wow!

I just read Rapunzel for the first time. It is so good. It blew away my expectations considering I have never liked a graphic novel before!

Nathan Hale: I wonder if his Jack is hotter than yours, too? LOL! JK. I love Jack, so funny. I laughed so hard the first time, and reading it to my little brothers made it even funnier.

Thanks so much for the nice comments, folks. Especially thanks to the Hales for a chance to share in the magic of Rapunzel. Such a fun book!
Nathan Hale (no relation): Firstly sir, I would respectfully dispute the question of your Rapunzel's hotness vis a' vis my incarnation. Secondly, I have two (and pretty much only two) things that I draw passably well: Girls and Dinosaurs. If my Rapunzel has anything over yours in regard to the issue of hotness (which again, is debatable), it is my tragically limited focus that is the author of that cause.
I feel I should tell you, Nathan, that I am terribly and near *homicidally* jealous of the wonderful environments you created for Rapunzel's Revenge. Comics are a sometimes frustrating medium, in large part because even if you have THE most phenomenal story possible you can wind up losing the majority of your audience because the art is all "meh-ey". You, sir, are the antithesis of meh. I love your characters (Tina's Terrible Trio especially deserve their own comic), but more than anything, your backgrounds are what sold the story for me in the end. In exactly the same way that good prose gives written characters a place to exist in, your vivid and well rendered backgrounds give Rapunzel's story just that much more "oomph" by providing a world for the story to take place. The red rocks, the aspen forests, the palace, the swamp, the desolate badlands... it all read so well for me. Congratulations on a job wonderfully done.
P.S. Your zebra-striped Styracasuarus from your website? Mad props. Near-favorite coloration for a ceratopsian EVER!

P.P.S. I meant to write "Styracosaurus". My shame is deep and never ending.

Just read this book today. I can't believe it's taken me so long to get it,but our friendly local bookstore just got it in stock.
I could go on and on and on about how much i LOOOOVED it, but instead i'll just say this:
Rapunzel and Jack go up there with my top ten favorite main characters of all time.
That's all.

The comments from Nathan Hale (no relation!) and Marcus Aurelius just cracked me up. Thanks for making me laugh :D

Ooh, I finally got to read this--awesome!

Wow! Thanks for the kind words Marcus! I'm really not kidding about the "Hotness." Look at that full-lipped snarl before she whips that moose-head onto the bad guys (btw...why didn't I think of doing that?)
I try to make the backgrounds as interesting as possible--I guess it's my secret desire to be a landscape painter. The Calamity Jack settings won't be as geographically diverse--but I think they'll be pretty interesting. They better be...I've spent mountains of time on them.
And as for dinosaurs, I think here's as good a place as any to request dinosaurs for Rapunzel Book 3--Whaddya say Shannon and Dean? Rapunzel goes to Dinosaurland? It needs a fairy tale hook...hmmm...what fairy tale could have dinosaurs in it....?
Suggestions?

...I mean BOAR'S head. She whips a boar's head off the wall. Now it's my turn to be embarrassed.

Nathan--You should totally do the Moose's Head scene for "Rapunzel Takes Over Canada"
Marcus--Mad skillz, dude. Your other video (about the things you learned in school) practically had me in tears. The good kind of tears, not the bad kid.
Can't wait to see the rest of the contestants!
