Dean and I got back today from a semi-last minute trip to Arizona. We hopped on a plane, flew to Phoenix, drove to our hotel, changed clothes, drove to a movie theater, and attended a private premiere of a movie that's really been suffering lately for lack of publicity. It's called Twilight.
Here I am in my Newbery dress (only worn once) with Stephenie (Meyer), her significant male, and my significant male dressed in a purple suit. Yes he is. I love him so much.
The fresh-after movie glow. I really loved it. No, not everyone will, and that's okay. But I have to say...Rob did it. He brung it. I asked Dean after, "Could you sense his animal magnetism?" Nope. He couldn't. But he did like the vampire fights.
Clearly still feeling tipsy from the movie, I pose with our rental car. Now you should know, I reserved the cheapest economy car from the cheapest rental place offered on travelocity. But when we got there, they apparently had a spare Mustang. It really was so sweet to drive. We're not car people, but we had to admit--it doesn't handle like the minivan.
And...things continue to devolve. Hey, I was in a fancy dress on a fancy car! Dean said I looked like I'd been hit by the car, but I so think I look like a calandar pinup girl. A chaste calandar. In an old folks home, perhaps. Someplace with dim lighting and no television.
Anyhoo, it was a good time. Dean said he felt like he was taking me to prom. And it was weird not to sleep next to a baby monitor. It's always wonderful to see Stephenie, who is all grace and goodness, and I think this movie is going to make a lot of people very happy...

Oh, I love this. I'm glad you liked it (and that you said so). I will be seeing the show at 7 on the 21st...I will watch for animal magnetism. My hubby says he agrees with Dean on that last pic, except that you're smiling. But I don't think it's too unbelievable that you would be smiling after having been hit by a car. You'd be in shock.

What a fun time! I'm going to see the movie tonight and I'm REALLY looking forward to it.
Also, your husband owns a purple suit. I had no idea such a thing was possible!

That is SO COOL that you saw Twilight with Stephenie! You'll be able to tell your grandkids. :-) And show them the photos of course.

You know Shannon, it's really hard for me to read your blog in a public computer lab, because I tend to start laughing, and then people start giving me weird looks...
Sweet pics. I think I may need to find that suit now for my fiance to wear at our wedding reception...

That happened to me once! We reserved an economy car at a rental place on a trip to Hawaii - but by the time we got there they were almost out of economy cars and begged us to take a Sebring convertible instead.
We didn't argue.
Posted by: Cindy | November 21, 2008 at 08:33 AM
Shannon, you look so pretty! I saw the movie last night as well, with Holly B. and Robin W. I hope you and Stephenie had a great time.
Posted by: Cassie Clare | November 21, 2008 at 08:34 AM
I am still bleary eyed from watching the midnight showing last night! And you are right, Rob brung it baby!
I'm so glad you posted your pic's, those poses on the 'Stang' would get those old men in the old folks home in peppy moods!
You're awesome! Can't wait for your next volumes to appear!
Posted by: Deb | November 21, 2008 at 08:48 AM
Mmmmmmm Edward. Mmmmmmm Rob's hair. Even if the movie is horrible (which it CAN'T be, right?) at least we get to look at his yummy hair.

Twilight, what's that?!? Heehee. Those car pictures are crazy! You're so silly.

Did you actually get invited by her? Not saying that's impossible or anything, just really sweet. I haven't seen the movie yet. So you're pictures make me really jealous... and you look like someone on a James Bond movie. :)

Shannon Hale: Sexiest Author Alive
Boo-yah. I want that pinup! lol
That would be SOOO fun to see Stephenie! Not the movie premier, though. I don't like the cast. ESPECIALLY ROB. EEEEEEEEEWWWWW!!!!!!!!! *barfs* But I'm glad you had fun. And got to ride/drive a Mustang. That's pimp. ^_^

I say you look gorgeous! And how wonderful that you got to see Twilight with Stephenie! (I know, I'm probably the trillionth person to say this.)
Posted by: Maya | November 21, 2008 at 06:16 PM
What a cool alignment of the stars! Sounds like you had an awesome time. :)
Posted by: Rose | November 22, 2008 at 06:06 AM
That dress of yours truly is gorgeous, Shannon! I love it!
Saw TWILIGHT last night, it was a really great experience because I was there with my mom's book club (they paid for my ticket) and the place was PACKED. There was almost constant laughter going on. And it got to the point where you couldn't tell if people were laughing because it was funny, or because they were heckling. Though, I'm pretty sure the laughers during the Ballet Studio scene were hecklers. :)
I enjoyed myself immensely.

So great to see success come to you and Stephanie both; it inspires the rest of us almost middle-age moms into being all we can be!
I, on the other hand, crowded in with every teenage girl in our small town and of course my daughter and loved the movie together!
It enhances the books, if that's possible.
Posted by: TJ Hirst | November 22, 2008 at 09:38 AM
Fun pics, glad you went to see it!
You all look great. We went to a Megaplex 20 and every theater was sold out for the midnight show, good thing we all pre-ordered our tickets 3 months in advance!
Fun movie, funny pics!
Thanks for the laugh!

Luv the pics & the dress BTW!
Posted by: Anglea | November 22, 2008 at 01:48 PM
Sounds like so much fun. Getting away from the baby monitor (I so want to do that) and watching a cool movie with really cool people. Awesome!
The last time my husband went out of town he also got to drive a mustang and I wasn't with him - so disappointing.
Posted by: caribookscoops | November 22, 2008 at 09:25 PM
Love the dress! I for one loved the movie. It was just as good as the books, but in a different way.

In order of pictures:
1) Shannon, when did you and Steph become succubus? Your eyes are still red with your human blood. Was this transformation recent?! (By the way, I love Deannnnnnnn!!! He's so daring. A purple suit! That is so freakin sweet, man! *use of "freakin" not intended in a bad way*)
2) Aww... You guys look so perfect!
(What's that x in the middle of Dean's hand?)
3) N. I. C. E.
Pretty dress. "Pretty Woman." GORGEOUS STANG!
4) ......I'm sorry..... I agree with Dean.....
But yeah, since you're smiling and look conscious, I guess you weren't hit by the STANG.
It seems like you had a fun night. I still have to watch the movie. I just hope it really is as good as the book. I don't always trust my friends' judgment. (Especially since they base it on how "hot" R.P. looks. (Prsonally, I don't think he's all that. Hate me if you must.))

The photos of you on the car are absolutely hilarious! I'm ready for a Goose Girl movie. Seriously.
I think I was the only person in the movie theater who spotted Stephenie in the diner scene of the movie...but maybe when I gasped really loud and began waving my arm around pointing, others perhaps caught on.
Posted by: Corley | November 23, 2008 at 02:35 PM
Dean-- Love the suit.
Loved the movie too, just was pretty sad about the special effects. Oh, and Jacob's wig. Seems like they spent too much money publicizing it to actually get a good budget in the wig/special effects department. Oh well. They had a great cast, except Jacob and Alice. Alice looked the part, but she didn't act very well.
I'm just trying to figure out how they'll do Breaking Dawn...

Shannon - beautiful dress! How fun - to see the movie with Stephenie.
Rob did bring it! Gosh, I cannot believe I once thought he wasn't the best choice.
I am going to see the movie again tonight. :)

Love the dress! And the purple suit. I definitely agree, Rob brung it!! :D Really everybody brung it... even the side characters were so full of life and humor (not that they weren't in the books).

Totally hilarious photo! I went to Twilight at midnight with some gal pals. We took photos with Rob...though he was a little unanimated (cardboard). I knocked him over by accident, but thought that would be a great photo too. We sat next to some ladies who live in your neighborhood...I found out by recommending your books to them. I kept grabbing everyone and blurting out, "Hey these guys live by Shannon Hale!" We almost got their autographs just for knowing you!

My son just walked in the room and asked if my friend was hit by a car. I thought that was pretty funny. I love your work... I'm reading Rebel Angels right now. My sister got me hooked.
Posted by: Gina | January 21, 2009 at 07:56 PM
I'm sorry I didn't mean to write Rebel Angels. It's sitting on my office desk right now and it was fresh on my mind... I meant Book Of A Thousand Days. I'm really not that lame.

Omg!! I was just reading breaking dawn and I was bored, so I read the acknowledgements (god that's a long word) and I see "Shannon hale" in there. I think "Shannon hale. Where have heard that before?". Then it hit me. "she's the author of those goose girl books me and my friends love!!!! Omg she knows stephanie meyer!!". So I go immediatly to my iPod touch and google Shannon hale official website. Sorry to rant, just thought it was kindafunny.
Anyway, I love ur books and every friend I've recommended them to fell in love too!! Glad u liked twilight. I'm not a huge fan, mainly cuz I'm team Jacob all the way. Ur pics were hilarious!!
And I just wanna tell u how much I look up to u!! I love reading soooo much and I wanna do something with that when I grow up (perferably write) and u r a great model for me. The same kind of magic I want my books to have. Fantasy that's still down to earth and believable. So thank u.
