Maggie broke her leg! Totally random, just tripped and broke her leg. It's a minor break, thankfully, but there is something so sad about an 18-month old hobbled by a cast. Naturally we're experimenting with good pirate names for her (given her current peg-leg status) but haven't arrived at any winners. If you have pirate name suggestions, please share!

Lady Half-Leg Magadoo.
But I don't think I'm very good with pirate names . . .
Love the Rapunzel section!

no great ideas for names, here - but my daughter broke her foot in the fall and I painted her cast with acrylics. Not all over, just some. Just an idea - every girl feels better about wearing a cast if it has flowers on it!

Ouch. Poor Maggie. :(

Hmm, will have to think on pirate names, but I can't think of any. Poor girl. :(
Also, just looked through the Rapunzel's Revenge section, and it's awesome! I can't wait for the book!

I broke my leg when I was five. I don't remember the pain, but I do remember a lot of the things I saw between the time I broke it and the time I got it set.
Mad Maggie?

Awww, poor Maggie!
Hmm... pirate names.... sorry, no help there.
I've broken both of my arms--
falling off a cow and jumping off a swing.
Ah well. No pirate names from me.
Get well soon, Maggie!

Amalgamation Mags!
(I like the word Amalgamation. Say it three times fast.)
Even breaking a leg can be fun in the Hale family. ;)

My brother broke his femur when he was about Maggie's age because when my dad turned around, he just wobbled right off of the changing table. Ouch.
hmm, pirate names.
Scarletta. -although I've already given that to my friend.
Sea Miranda.
Fracton. -like fraction, if she just barely broke her leg, insetead of all the way.
Pretty pathetic, but that's all I've got.

Blahggahrd Mahggahrd Mahrooned Mahgeee!
Poor kiddo! Ever since my first could walk, I've been waiting for that to happen. Now that it has for you, maybe you can think of it as "Whew, that's over with! Now it more than likely won't happen again. Right?
We'll cross our fingers as I myself have pulled the ligaments on the same ankle three times in the past decade or so...But I'm an ultimate klutz. When I'm pregnant my husband teases me that my arms whip out and strike random objects off the counter as I walk through the kitchen. It's actaully embarrassingly true.
My Hazel has bonked her head (hard!) three times in three days this week and each time while we've held the ice on her noggin, and asked her how many fingers she sees, I keep thinking, this time it's certainly going to be a concussion.
But nope, fortunately the goose eggs have all gone down and she's just got a nice shiner or two to go with her smiley sunshiny face.
(I have to admit though, that the third bonk was received when she was sitting on the arm of the sofa and we were reading that book Monster, Monster that I recommended to you a few blogs ago. Yikes! Hazel got so excited on the second to the last page (in anticipation of the monster, of course) that she bounced off the couch backwards and bonked her head on the baseboard of the wall behind her. Ouch. (And "ouch" to my parental logic!) Live and learn.
Well, I hope you're surviving all right yourself as I know that any little upset with kids throws the schedule off a bit.
Good luck and let us know if you do decorate the cast with Piratesque white polka dots on a red background or a shimmery purple paint in honor of the Pirates of Penzance in their shiny purple pants. ;) J.
Keep us posted.

Maniac Magee (pronounced as Maggie), courtesy of the marvelous Mr. Jerry Spinelli
Best wishes to the young swashbuckler.

If it was a buckle fracture or similar I'd suggest Buckler, with Max called Swash for the time being in the spirit of solidarity, but the only other piratey names I have on hand are Snaggletooth Mags (not exactly relevant to the current circumstances) and Peg-Leg Meg (which rhymes, but sort of doesn't actually use her name. Hmm). Get-well wishes in any case, and I hope she feels better soon!

Awwwww, that's awful.
Sorry..no pirate names. :)

I broke my pinkie toe.
Okay, maybe that's not very impressive. But I suffered!
Poor Maggie! Nice job on the pirate names. No suggestions here, I'm afraid. Well, some rather horrid ones, but I'd rather not share them.

Don't know about any pirate names, but there's a book you might want to get for her:
Maggie and the Pirate

Oh come on, hasn't anybody mentioned "Peg" yet?? Bless her little peg-legged heart!
Love her up!

Poor girly!
Hmmm, names...
Peg Leg Meg?
Capt. NoBeard?
Hobbling Maggie?
Peggie Meggie?
Gimpy Shrimp?
Magdalena of the Spanish Main?
Limping Margaret?
That's all I've got.

OMG! I'm so sorry, that sucks. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Where's Laura when you need her? (I know she's going to post some awesome maggie-the-pirate names, it's just in her nature...)
Ouch. So sorry to hear about that. Hope she's not too uncomfortable!

Like Kelsey, I have no nickname suggestions, but I did recently come across a new picture book that might fit the occasion.
It's about a dog with a broken leg who is distracted with a pirate-based treasure hunt:
PEG LEG PEKE by Brie Spangler

I just braved Cub Scout day camp this week and the theme was "X Marks the Fun."
The scout leaders claimed your pirate name is a combo of your first pet's name, and the first street you lived on. Then you throw a "Captain" in front for good measure.
This formula would make me Captain Puffy Saratoga, which doesn't sound the least bit piraty, unless the ship was the "Rainbow Wishes" and my pirate outfit included tulle and a feather boa.
Personally, I'm voting for Peg Leg Meg. Or...CAPTAIN Peg Leg Meg.

Swaggerin'Mag
Gimpy Girl
Maggie Cast Away
Hope she heals quickly!
Posted by: myrna | July 31, 2008 at 09:54 PM
Afton, I believe that formula would make my pirate name "Captain Sparky 3rd South."
Calliope, I couldn't let you down, so here goes:
Hop-along Half-pint
Midget Mags
Maggie J. Wonder Pirate
The Toddlin' Terror
Draggy-leg Maggie
Get better soon, Maggie dear!

Mags the Snaggletooth Pirate!
Best of luck to ye! Never was good luck to have a lady aboard.

Ohh. Poor Maggie...!
I've never broken anything or fractured anything or pulled any ligaments or had stitches or lost a tooth the hard, painful way in my life. I've also never been stung by bee, hornet, wasp, or yellowjacket or anything of the sort. Just ants. My life has been rather non-painful. Also unexciting. But hey, that's life.
Pirate names?
Her name is Magnolia, isn't it? Those are a kind of flower but to be called "Blooming Flower of the Seas" would be too sweet I think. Not to mention it has nothing to do with her condition. But perhaps it is not too sweet at all. There was a Barbary corsair called Simon (Zyman) the Dancer. Or you could search for the names of the few women pirates there were and be a pirate by taking the name for Mags. (My favorite is Gráinne Ní Mháille (Grace O'Mally))

The obvious "Eileen" jokes have been made already, yeah?

These all rock so hard. I knew I could count on you guys! I've been calling her Peg Leg Meg since yesterday, but there are so many good ones to choose from I may have to rotate.

instead of something like "red-handed Jill"
how about White-Legged Mag?
or whatever color her cast is
Posted by: Hannah | August 01, 2008 at 10:18 AM
I always like pirate names with a good "ARR" sound, like Arwin, or Ardith (though I'm not sure Sister Kapp would consider herself very pirate-like). But if you still can't come up with a name you can head on over to piratequiz.com to discover Maggie's TRUE pirate name!
Posted by: Heather | August 01, 2008 at 12:26 PM
Maggie O'hara?
Peggy Meggie?
Capt. Magpie?
I'm sssoooooo sorry about her leg! I hope it gets better!
